Concept Note
The 3rd Diamond Open Access Conference will bring together actors from the research sector and policymakers advocating for diamond open access as a model for scholarly communication. Diamond open access, a model in which research outputs are openly available without charging fees to either others or readers, has gained momentum globally as an inclusive and scholarly-driven approach to disseminating research knowledge.
This year will mark a pivotal moment in the development of diamond open access as the leading model for the future of scholarly communication, driven by growing engagement of the research sector and increased political support. The establishment of a Global Federation for Diamond Open Access will signify a collective commitment towards fostering equitable access to research outputs and advancing the principles of open science, building on the achievements of the Global Summit on Diamond Open Access (October 2023, Mexico) and the community that has gathered around the Action Plan for Diamond Open Access.
Against this background, the 3rd Diamond Open Access Conference will delve deeper into the main theme of social justice by examining its impact on topics central to the future of diamond open access. Firstly, it will explore the current landscape of diamond open access infrastructure, including both facilities and services, and discuss how it can contribute to social justice. Secondly, the conference will address issues related to research evaluation in relation to diamond open access. And lastly, the conference will foster collaborations and build equitable partnerships at regional and global level, facilitating knowledge exchange and collective action.
The 3rd Diamond Open Access Conference will provide a unique platform for stakeholders to converge, collaborate, and chart the course for the future of scholarly communication. By fostering dialogue, sharing good practices, and forging closer partnerships, the conference aims to accelerate the transition towards a more open, inclusive, and scholarly driven research ecosystem. The outcomes of the conference will contribute to the Global Federation for Diamond Open Access.
